🌟 Staff Spotlight: Mrs. Jill Everett 🌟
Meet Mrs. Jill Everett, a dedicated Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) with 20 years of experience, 16 of them spent serving the Thomasville City Schools District. With a Master’s degree in Communication Disorders from Valdosta State University, Jill is passionate about helping students succeed. When she’s not working as an SLP, you’ll find Jill cheering on the THS Diamond Dawg Majorettes as their coach, supporting her team and the THS Bulldogs on Friday nights 🐾🏈. She’s also the proud mom of two Scholars Academy students, Bailey and Parks 👩👦. In addition to all of this, Jill is a travel agent who loves a good chance to "get away" ✈️🌍. What does she love most about teaching at Scholars Academy? "Because I have the unique position to have my students from 6th-12th grade, I love the relationships that I'm able to build with them." 💙 Thank you, Mrs. Everett, for your dedication to your students and your school community!

Mrs. Chen-Black and Mrs. Rainey had an amazing day with our 8th-grade students, taking them on a walking field trip to the Center for the Arts to see the Andrew Young Exhibit. 🎨✨ It was an inspiring experience for all, learning about his powerful art and contributions. What a fantastic opportunity to connect with history and creativity right here in our community! 🙌💫
🌟 Staff Spotlight: Mr. Dale Hicks 🌟
Meet Mr. Dale Hicks, a passionate educator and outdoor enthusiast! 🍃 With an Ed.S in Educational Leadership from Liberty University, a Master of Arts in Social Studies Education from the University of South Florida, and a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education Social Studies from Mississippi State University, Mr. Hicks brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Scholars Academy. Before his teaching career, he served 22 years in the U.S. Navy. When he's not in the classroom, you can find Mr. Hicks enjoying the great outdoors — whether it’s golfing, playing tennis 🎾, hunting 🦌, fishing 🎣, camping, or hiking ⛰️. A die-hard Gator fan 🐊, he proudly claims, "If you cut me, I'll bleed orange and blue." What does Mr. Hicks love about teaching at Scholars Academy? "The engagement. I expect my students to give as good as they get, not accepting dominant narratives or the status quo." 📚💡Thank you, Mr. Hicks, for inspiring our students to think critically and for your service! 💫

🌟 Staff Spotlight: Mrs. Stacey Morgan 🌟
Meet Mrs. Stacey Morgan, a dedicated special education teacher with 15 years of experience! 🎓 She’s taught all grade levels from Pre-K through 12th and has been a part of the Thomasville City Schools family for 12 years. For the past decade, she has served as the Lead Special Education Teacher at MPMS and Jerger. With a Master’s in Special Education from Valdosta State and a Specialist degree in Special Education Leadership from the University of West Georgia, Mrs. Morgan continues to grow in her field. She recently completed the Special Education Administrators Developmental Academy through G-CASE. Outside the classroom, Stacey has been happily married for almost 16 years and is a proud mom to four beautiful children — three girls (13, 11, and 8) and a little boy (4) 👨👩👧👦. She loves reading, playing the guitar or piano 🎶, and heading to the mountains whenever she can 🌄. She and her husband lead worship at their church, First Methodist of Cairo. Growing up all over South Georgia as the daughter of a Methodist preacher ⛪, she moved often, but Thomasville has been her family’s home for 12 years. This year, she’s thrilled to work with many students she previously taught at Jerger, seeing their incredible academic growth 📚. Mrs. Morgan also admires the hard work of her fellow teachers in meeting the needs of all learners. Thank you, Mrs. Morgan, for your commitment and passion! 💫❤️

🌟 Teacher Spotlight: Brantley Ivey 🌟
Meet Brantley Ivey, an incredible member of the Scholars Academy team since 2018! 🎭 With a BFA in Performing Arts from Coastal Carolina University and additional studies in Physical Theatre and Commedia dell’Arte from the Accademia dell’Arte in Italy 🇮🇹, Brantley brings a world of experience to our students. Before returning to her hometown, she spent several years performing in New York 🗽, where she earned rave reviews from the New York Times 📰 and helped create a New York Innovative Theatre Award-nominated piece 🏆. As a third-generation educator 👩🏫 and founding member of the Thomasville City Schools Drama Program, Brantley’s passion for the arts and teaching is evident. She now lives in her hometown with her husband and their two children 👨👩👧👦, balancing her passion for education and family life. ❤️ When asked what she loves most about teaching at Scholars Academy, she said, "The students — their engagement, motivation, and ingenuity." 👏 We're lucky to have you, Brantley! 💫
Today, Mrs. Nicolay’s Literature students at Thomasville High School had the privilege of meeting bestselling author Shelby Van Pelt, whose debut novel, REMARKABLY BRIGHT CREATURES, is not only a New York Times bestseller but also a selection of the Read with Jenna Today Show book club.
As part of our Thomas County One Book campaign, Mrs. Van Pelt shared her inspiring journey to becoming an author, detailing the challenges and triumphs she faced along the way. Her candid discussion about the writing process resonated deeply with our students, fostering a lively Q&A session that was both engaging and insightful.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Shelby Van Pelt for her visit and for sharing her remarkable story. We hope she enjoys all that Thomasville, GA, has to offer during her stay!
