The overall purpose of an advisory committee is to assist with the design, development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of a specified Career, Technology and Agricultural Education program. It is the hope that through these advisory committees and the collaboration that ensues, THS will be able to better prepare its students for the world of work.
For this particular event, Mrs. Prothro’s third year students had to create an original prototype food, have community members test their product, tweak their recipes if necessary, and develop a product package and marketing strategy for their Food Innovations project. Advisory committee members from Wiregrass Technical College, McDonald’s, Thomas County Health Department, and Thomasville High School critiqued the students’ oral presentations, their packaging, and the looks, smell, and taste of the food.
The cheeseburger bacon bomb, created by junior Kevon Shy, and seniors Elijah Gilbert and Aleah Wagner, received top honors. The group thought it would be fun to create a burger than can be eaten one-handed. The result was a delicious combination of hamburger meat, bacon, cheese, barbecue sauce, fresh jalapenos, onions, ketchup, and mustard, wrapped into a biscuit ball.
